Into the Twentieth Century

Tourist Photographers 3.JPG

Title

Into the Twentieth Century

Subject

'The Cambrian Album'

Description

This album from the 1920s might seem more modern. Smaller, cheaper cameras allowed these tourists to take photographs themselves, so they could include whatever they wanted—lakes, mountains, waterfalls, and self-portraits with their car. You might notice that this album has no text (unlike the previous one): these tourists evidently believed that a picture was worth a thousand words.

Photograph albums like these remained popular through the rest of the century, until new technology changed the way we share and store photographs.
