Title
Wordsworth, Photographically Illustrated
Subject
The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth
Description
Photography’s widespread adoption in the second half of the nineteenth century led to several editions of Wordsworth’s poetry illustrated with photographs. Photographers captured places associated with Wordsworth and scenes he described.
Photography hadn’t been invented when Wordsworth wrote his most famous poems. Using this new medium to illustrate them reflected changes since his death. But at the same time these modern-looking editions helped to renovate his work for a new generation.
